I am challenging to create a red world that audiences can perceive the meaning based on their own experiences. There is nothing wrong or correct to understand the symbols. Crew & Cast
I am a third-year Film student with a minor in Theatre Studies studying at Lancaster University. I have been recently interested in Directing and tried to gain experience in this role by writing and directing my 3 short films. Along with directing, I have a strong interest in production design, costume design, makeup, and SFX makeup as I am highly interested in creating complex visuals in movies. On top of directing my short films, I had the opportunity to work in almost 10 other short films, in different roles, such as production designer, makeup artist, behind-the-scenes photographer, boom operator and costume designer. After graduating from Lancaster University I plan on trying to start a career in the British film industry, my dream being to work everyday on a movie set.
I am a Fine Art and Film student. I have worked as a production designer, most recently for Paint (2024), as well as a cinematographer, and editor. I also enjoy directing my own shorts and video art, such as Dupe (2024), an art/film/youtube hybrid exploring the construction of an online persona.
Carolina Silva is a Brazilian Filmmaker who is specifically passionate about creating symbolic and surrealist films. Although their aspiration is directing, she has been exploring other branches of filmmaking to gain a wider perspective. In Light That Candle, Carolina is a production designer and is thrilled to be working alongside such talented crew.
From a young age, being exposed to the stage through dance and theatre, I have always been intrigued by the film industry. Pursuing a university degree that is not related to the creative arts led me to seek creative outlets, such as being involved in film projects like "Light the Candle." This became my first on-screen experience and sparked an interest in deepening my knowledge, with hopes of pursuing further opportunities.
Paula is our hair stylist, an essential part of conveying the different stages of the film. Her talent in this area made her contribute to other sets like ' Psychosis ', showing skill in old Hollywood hairstyle as well. She is ambitious about pursuing a career in film by starting in the camera department in her next step. Paula is graduating in Film and Sociology this summer completing her 3rd year at Lancaster while working as Manager for Lancaster Arts.
Yun is a passionate student of film who aspires to employ her visual expression talents to engage with the audience. After winning the "Best Student Film" at the 2023 Portugal Indie Festival with her directorial debut, Boarding the Midnight Train (2023) at drama category, she tries to challenge herself to present her first experimental film, Light That Candle.
Film Synopsis
A feminist experimental film to discuss the challenges of being a female at different stages, utilising symbolic images and cooperative offscreen soundtracks to bring the struggles with abstraction. Aiming at forcing the audience to experience or reflect on these existing issues, also throwing a question mark on society with standing on a feminist angle.
