My work explores the subject matter of water, and the symbolism which surrounds it, particularly its symbolic status as a medium for connection – connection between different bodies of water, connection between different states of water, in different organic beings. This interest manifests itself in my practice through the representation of various contrasting surface textures and the depiction of water, a fluid, ever changing subject as a static, isolated image.

Expanding on the idea of connectedness, I merge the images of water surfaces together, which I then use to form the basis of my digital paintings. Through collaging images of different bodies of water together, I aim to create an amalgamation of various surface textures, which culminate in a new ‘hybrid’ body of water, creating a visual demonstration of waters ability to connect. Through digital media, I feel I am able to experiment more with the dynamic forms and marks which I capture through my photography.
