My paintings explore the relationship between paint and painter, control and surrender, through the blending of colours and movement. My work uses layering and paint pouring techniques to depict the intangibility of memory; the layers upon layers of paint representing the way that memories fade or become stronger with time. This series of paintings is inspired by auras and how said auras are impacted by memories. My process is intuitive, drawing on memories surrounding important people in my life, before stretching an appropriately sized canvas and mixing colours I associate with that person and the feelings they evoke.
The aura paintings are intimate, providing a ground for feeling and learning. Each colour has been mixed and chosen with particular family photos in mind, relating strongly to the subject’s aura. Ultimately, these paintings are ‘love letters’ to the people in my life that matter the most.
